How We Tested

Chassis lettering had to be right before I scored HDMI count. Nano docks had tosupply HDMI and USB-A— the chassis does not. Carbon / Yoga “use the deck HDMI” was wrong. Docks had to sit in a Thunderbolt 4 jack and talk65W USB-C— 45W special-bid was thin.USB-C Port Replicator as a Thunderbolt desk,TBT4-UDZ quad-4K,40AY USB-C,Mokin 9-in-1,TS5 as 80 Gb/s,100W as a requirement, andCarbon slug silently covering Nanodid not qualify. PSREF prints two externals via Thunderbolt, up to 5K 60 class — four native 4K is UDZ marketing. This page is X1 Nano Gen 3. It is not Carbon, not Yoga, and not Port Replicator FAQ copy.

Best Docking Station for ThinkPad X1 Nano: Detailed Reviews

🏆 Best Overall

Plugable TBT4-UD5 Thunderbolt 4 DockView on Amazon

Best For:Nano HDMI-less desks — Carbon “use chassis HDMI” is wrong
Key Feature:Thunderbolt 4 · dual HDMI · USB-A · 96W generous vs 65W · 2.5GbE
Rating:4.6 / 5.0 ★★★★☆
HostEither Thunderbolt 4. Those two jacks are the entire I/O
Power to laptopUp to 96W. generous vs 65W. One-cable 65W class is honest
DisplaysDual HDMI — Nano has no chassis HDMI. UDZ four native 4K is marketing
Instead ofNot Port Replicator. Not Carbon HDMI copy. Not Mokin
Skip ifYou wanted 18 ports and UHS-II. TS4

TBT4-UD5 is a current Thunderbolt 4 dock with two HDMI, USB-A, and 2.5GbE. On X1 Nano that is the HDMI and USB-A the chassis refused to print. Carbon Gen 12 / 13 copy said chassis HDMI 2.1 is enough. Nano does not have that jack. 96W is generous versus 65W. About $180.

Do not buy UD5 because X1 Yoga copy said TBT4-UDZ is the gold standard. UDZ is SKU. Dual native 4K 60 is the honest Thunderbolt 4 ceiling on a two-pipe Nano.

  • Gives Nano HDMI the chassis omitted
  • Gives Nano USB-A the chassis omitted
  • 96W generous vs 65W
  • Not Lenovo dock-button IT silicon
  • Not four native 4K
💎 Best Value

CalDigit TS4View on Amazon

Best For:Front USB-A / UHS-II — Port Replicator is thin as a desk
Key Feature:Thunderbolt 4 · 18 ports · 98W generous vs 65W
Rating:4.6 / 5.0 ★★★★☆
HostEither TB4. Downstream USB-A is critical because Nano has none
Power to laptopUp to 98W. generous vs 65W
DisplaysDual 4K class. No chassis HDMI to fall back on
Instead ofNot USB-C Port Replicator. Not 40AY. Not TS5
Skip ifYou only wanted two HDMI cheaper. UD5

TS4 is the 18-port Thunderbolt 4 desk. On Nano it is correct because the chassis is empty. PSREF still lists a USB-C Port Replicator — that is thin as a dual-4K desk. About $330.

  • USB-A Nano does not have
  • 98W generous vs 65W
  • More money than UD5 for the same 40 Gb/s
  • Not 80 Gb/s — TS5 is money
💰 Budget Pick

Anker 565 USB-C Hub (11-in-1)View on Amazon

Best For:Coworking HDMI + USB-A — Mokin / HDMI dongle stay on Yoga copy
Key Feature:HDMI · USB-A · Ethernet · SD · thin pass-through vs 65W
Rating:4.5 / 5.0 ★★★★☆
HostEither TB4. This is correct HDMI when you will not carry UD5
Power to laptopPass-through thin. Feed 65W in this hub or sit the Lenovo brick in the other TB4
DisplaysOne HDMI. Nano has no second chassis HDMI
Instead ofNot Mokin 9-in-1. Not Lenovo USB-C to HDMI dongle as a desk
Skip ifYou wanted two HDMI from one cable. UD5

Anker 565 is the current bag hub. On Nano it is critical HDMI, not optional like Carbon. Sit 65W in the hub or in the other Thunderbolt 4 — two-C desk is honest because both jacks are TB4. About $60.

  • HDMI Nano does not have
  • USB-A Nano does not have
  • Current 565, not Mokin
  • One HDMI, USB-C speeds
  • Not a dual-4K Thunderbolt desk
⭐ Premium Choice

Lenovo ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 DockView on Amazon

Best For:Fleet 40B0 — Port Replicator and 40AY are not this dock
Key Feature:Thunderbolt 4 · ~100W generous vs 65W · HDMI + USB-A Nano omitted
Rating:4.4 / 5.0 ★★★★☆
HostEither Nano TB4. Power button / MAC is the IT reason
Power to laptopAround 100W. generous vs 65W — not “Nano requires 100W”
DisplaysHDMI + DP. Critical because Nano has no chassis HDMI
Instead ofNot USB-C Port Replicator. Not 40AY USB-C sold as TB4
Skip ifYou are buying one dock on Amazon today. UD5 is cheaper current silicon

Universal Thunderbolt 4 (40B0 class) is correct fleet silicon. Nano user guide still points at a USB-C Port Replicator. That is thin HDMI. Yoga copy sold 40AY as value — USB-C, not Thunderbolt 4. If you already own 40B0, keep it. About $250.

  • HDMI + USB-A Nano omitted
  • Lenovo button / firmware path
  • harder to buy than UD5
  • Do not confuse with Port Replicator / 40AY
👍 Also Great

65W brick in one TB4 plus 565 in the otherView on Amazon

Best For:Travel when UD5 stays home — “Nano already has HDMI” is Carbon copy
Key Feature:Two TB4 jacks exist so the brick and the hub can share · still no chassis HDMI
Rating:4.3 / 5.0 ★★★★☆
HostBrick in one TB4, hub in the other. wrong as one-cable if the hub is thin PD
Power to laptop65W native on one jack. Hub pass-through thin if you try one cable
DisplaysOne HDMI from 565. Dual HDMI still wants UD5
Instead ofNot Carbon chassis-HDMI. Not Port Replicator
Skip ifYou wanted one cable. UD5

Nano’s only honest two-cable desk is 65W in one Thunderbolt 4 and a hub in the other. There is no HDMI to “keep using.” Carbon / Yoga copy fails here.

  • 65W stays honest
  • 565 supplies omitted HDMI / USB-A
  • Two cables, not one-cable
  • One HDMI, not dual 4K

Buying Guide: Nano traps versus Carbon / Yoga

X1 Nano Gen 3 is two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack. PSREF does not print HDMI or USB-A. Carbon Gen 12 / 13 and X1 Yoga Gen 8 / 2-in-1 Gen 9 already have HDMI 2.1 — “use the deck HDMI” fails on Nano. This slug exists because the omitted jacks are the 2026 hook.

Key traps

  • Chassis HDMI.Carbon / Yoga copy. Nano has none. Buy HDMI.
  • USB-C Port Replicator as a desk.user-guide accessory. thin versus UD5 dual HDMI.
  • TBT4-UDZ quad-4K.X1 Yoga December 2025 copy. Nano is two Thunderbolt pipes, not four native 4K.
  • 40AY USB-C as Thunderbolt 4.Yoga value pick. Wrong silicon.
  • 45W as enough.special-bid. 65W is Rapid Charge.
  • 100W as a requirement.generous. 65W is enough.
  • Carbon / Yoga slug merge.. Do not silently rewrite them into Nano.
  • TS5 as an upgrade.expensive. The host is 40 Gb/s.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does X1 Nano have HDMI?

No. Gen 3 is two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack. Carbon / Yoga “use chassis HDMI” is wrong. Buy UD5 or 565 for HDMI.

Is Lenovo USB-C Port Replicator enough?

thin. PSREF still lists it. It is not a Thunderbolt 4 dual-HDMI desk. UD5 is the current cart.

Can Nano drive four 4K monitors?

UDZ copy said yes. PSREF prints two externals via Thunderbolt, up to 5K 60 class. Dual 4K 60 is the honest ceiling. Quad native 4K is marketing.

Is this the same dock as X1 Carbon Gen 12 / 13?

Same watt class: Thunderbolt 4, 65W. Different omitted jacks. Carbon already has HDMI 2.1 and USB-A. Nano does not. Do not silently rewrite it.

Should I buy Thunderbolt 5?

No. The host is Thunderbolt 4. TBT-UDT3 and TS5 Plus downclock and cost 80 Gb/s money.
